Animal pits at Store Nuten

Between Store and Vesle Nuten you can find traces after animal pits used long ago to capture reindeer. The area between these two mountain formations is well suited for this purpose.

The reindeer pits have been filled with stone to prevent anyone from falling down in the pits and injuring themselves.

On a small plain south of Store Nuten, there are traces from a bygone era where a man used to tend to his cow during the summers. Local legend has it that he would bring with him a small churn in which to make butter. A large slab of stone propped up by a number of other stones served as protection against the elements.

Store Nuten

Two to three kilometres north-west of Store Nuten is Steinstogonuten. The name reveals that this also served as a resting area for goat herders, trappers and hunters
